These elusive "thingies" are bumpers, also referred to as silencers, and for good reason. The bumper or the silencer are those little things that go in between the finger handles of your scissors. They are VERY important to your hair cutting shears! They keep your shears from making that clicking sound, thus the name silencer.

More importantly, the bumpers keep the shears' blades properly aligned so they open and close properly, and they do not overlap. If your shear's blades overlap they will not cut hair properly, in fact, they could be dangerous as the cutting edge is exposed. With the cutting edge on the outside you could cut yourself or even worse, your clients!

You can wait on a Professional Shear Sharpener to come to your rescue or you can replace your own bumper/silencer yourself.  Either way, these are great "thingies" to have around, and can rescue your shears in a hot minute so you can get back to doing what you best, Cutting Hair!
